GU-D Series Features

Noritake added capacitive touch switch to the visible VFD Module.

Capacitive Touch Switch

Both 8×2 or 8×4 touch switch grid modules.
Self Capacitive Touch Modules are available.
Mutual Capacitive Touch Modules are Available.
Touch data can be sent via:

  • Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C)
  • Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI)
  • Asynchronous Serial (UART)

The touch panel is mounted on the face of the display and its sensitivity can be adjusted to allow interaction even when the user is wearing rubber gloves.

Unified Touch and Display Commands

The touch and display commands for this module family are integrated into one command set. These commands only need to be sent to the display through one of its three supported interfaces.

Thin Film Metallic Panel with High S/N Ratio

The GU-D family is integrated with a thin film metallic panel that has a lower impedence than ordinary ITO touch panels. This allows the panel to reach a higher S/N ratio, a wider touch sense margin and better overall sensitivity.

Four General I/O Ports

Macro programs are also capable of controlling four general I/O ports on the module. These ports can be used to control other peripheral devices.

Macro programs can be developed and saved onto the module and used without an external controller. These programs can also be set to execute uponsystem start-up.

Wide Operating Temperature

The GU-D series modules can fully operate and be stored under a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.

Broad Spectrum

Dot illumination on the module has a broad spectrum with its peak reaching a bluish-green color that is pleasent to look at and easy to see at a distance. This also allows for a wide viewing angle.

Arduino Code Library

There is currently a code library that allows the core functionality of the GU-D modules to be accessed by an Arduino Uno. This code library includes all display and touch commands associated with the GU-D series modules.
